In our surgical office, we perform procedures without general anesthesia, so patients stay awake and feel minimal discomfort. Dr. Varano uses a local anesthetic, which involves a lidocaine mixture, and makes small incisions that are less than the width of a pencil eraser. This allows us to target and remove fat cells from specific areas. Treatments typically last between 1 to 3 hours, and most people can return to work after just 2 days.

Most patients can return to work in 2 days. Because the laser heats the skin and tumescent anesthesia is utilized, there is less bruising than traditional liposuction. Swelling usually subsides within a week. No sutures are required as the skin heals by a natural process. You may feel sore, but most individuals use over the counter pain analgesics for recovery (Tylenol). You will be fitted with a compression garment to wear for the first 2 weeks, and will be asked to avoid strenuous activity for 1-2 weeks.

Depending which area(s) are treated, you will notice an improvement of the skin and contour of your body shape after the swelling subsides. In general, just a few weeks after the treatment there will be a noticeable change. Improvements will continue to get better with each passing week over the first 6 months.

Coolsculpting is able to freeze/remove 40 cc of fat per cycle/applicator (which is the size of a large iphone & covers that much tissue). When treating an upper and lower abdomen and lovehandles , the typical treatment patterns consists of 8 applicators . Math would tell us 8 x 40cc = 320cc of fat removal (Other non invasive treatments such as Sculpsure, liposonix, Emsculpt Neo etc remove even less per area.)

An average liposuction case in our office for treating the same areas we typically get 1500-2000cc of fat in a single one hour session. Of course this depends on each client and other variables, but on average individual who is 180 lbs 5'7 we remove 1500cc-2000 cc is average. In other words if you were to try to get the same amount of fat removed by coolsculpting as done with liposuction, it would require approximately 40-50 cycles ( 8 applicators per session x 5+ sessions which is not ideal on your time, body or pocketbook)
